We have been taking part in the Food Dudes programme for the last few weeks.  We have been really good at eating our fruit and vegetables every day and we have won lots of prizes for doing it! We’re moving on to the second phase now where we can earn super certificates for bringing fruit and vegetables in for our lunch every day.

Caroline from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland came in to do a workshop all about energy with us. She taught us about the different types of energy and how energy can never be lost or destroyed, only changed or transferred. We met her friend Guzzler who likes to waste energy and we taught him how to be more energy efficient and save energy at home and at school. We got to take part in lots of great games and experiments. It was a really fun and informative afternoon.

Today we explored the world of still life drawing in our art lesson. We experimented with light and shade using our special artist pencils. Then we looked at the form of some everyday objects and discussed their shape and the shadows around them before sketching the items in front of us. It was a bit of a challenge using only one pencil to create out whole picture but we did really well!

This week we went on a nature walk around the grounds of Barmeath Castle. Mrs. Bellew told us all about the different trees and wildlife that live on the grounds of the castle. We were also looking for signs of autumn and gathered up lots of different coloured leaves and seeds from the trees. We got to feed the pigs and as a special treat we picked some yummy raspberries. There were lots of tired legs on the way home as we had walked nearly 4km on our trek!

 

As it’s the 10th national maths week, we have been concentrating a lot on maths this week. We have been discussing they ways we use maths in our everyday lives and how how maths is used all around the school environment. We’ve been playing fun maths games, had a maths themed PE lesson and finished off a great week with a maths trail today.

   

After their fantastic win on Sunday, some of the players from Naomh Fionnbarra came in to show off the silverware they won this year. They also thanked all the boys and girls for their great support and encouraged them to keep the flags out for their next game in Leinster. They even brought in some treats for everyone to celebrate their win.
