Off to a great start

This week we have been enjoying the fine weather and went out on a maths trail.  We had to work in teams to answer maths questions based on the school environment.  It was brilliant fun and a great way to see how we use maths everyday and how it surrounds us in ways we don’t even realise.

We have also been learning about games this week.  By talking to parents, grandparents and teachers we learned about games children played in the past.  We loved learning about and trying games like Conkers, Red Lights, Giant Steps and Thread the Needle.  Skipping was very popular in the class too.  We learned some of the rhymes children sang while skipping like Cinderella, Skip To My Lou and England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales.

First and second class have been busy settling in to the new school year. We have been working hard, learning songs and poems, playing games and having fun! We’ve created fantastic self portraits which are displayed in the hallway and worked together to create our own class crest which we are very proud of.

This month we’ve been learning all about ourselves and our bodies, in both English and as Gaelige. Healthy lunches and food were on the menu, and we’ve been looking at ways to keep our bodies healthy and active.  As we’ve just moved into a new class, we looked back at how we’ve grown and changed since we were born. We have also been working hard on our reading, with everyone taking part in the paired reading challenge.

We’ve definitely got the year off to a great start!
