This month we are brushing up on our basket ball skills. We are able to go out side to the tarmac and enjoy our PE outdoors. We are learning how to dribble, pass and shoot. We practice our skills with some mini games. Here we are at work ….
On Monday 8th June we went to Tayto Park for our school tour. We enjoyed the bus ride and were so excited when we saw the wooden roller coaster at the park. First we got to visit all the animals – even a raccoon! We enjoyed a trip around the Tayto factory and then it was straight into the vortex tunnel. We had a lovely relaxing lunch in the restaurant and then it was off to the theme park for the rides. We went on the roller coaster which was so scary !! Then it was the 5D cinema which was great fun. Remember the spiders !! Some people went on the air racers which were awesome – we ended up upside down for a few seconds. The rotator looked too terrifying for us.The zip line was brilliant. The sky walk was challenging but we all felt great when we finished it. We were exhausted when we got back to the school. It was a BRILLIANT school tour. Here are some photos ….

It’s here! The school has made another wonderful achievement after receiving an Active School Flag. This is a very highly sought after award and everybody at St. Finian’s is very proud. An Active assessor visited St. Finian’s on Tuesday morning and all the active reps along with Mr.Shevlin showed him all our active efforts to date through, pictures, displays, videos, PowerPoints and active demonstrations at break time. He was amazed at all the activities we had in place at school. A big thank you to all the people who helped out with the initiative, from the hardworking pupils, teachers, coaches and of course the parents who helped greatly with our ‘WOW’, ‘Be Active’ and ‘Get Fit in February’ programmes. We will formally present and raise the flag at our Graduation Mass day on Wednesday 24th of June!
Super job everybody!
“Super Active St. Finian’s!”
The pupils of 3rd and 4th class decided that a school walk, with seniors walking with juniors, was a good way to have the whole school active and enjoy some fresh air together. 5th and 6th class thought it would be even better if the whole school recreated the walk made 60 years ago from the old school to St. Finian’s to mark our schools’ 60th birthday this year. Off we set to the old school house where we took photos of the present day pupils. We then walked in the footsteps of pupils and teachers from 60 years ago back to St. Finian’s. Here we also took photos in front of our school just as they did 60 years ago. Enjoy our photos …..

Well done to all the boys who represented the school at the Cumann na mBunscoil 11 aside blitz in Phillipstown on Tuesday afternoon. The boys did not go through unfortunately but they certainly gave it their all and put in some fantastic performances, including a powerful victory over Dromin N.S. A special well done to some of the boys in 3rd class who made their debut for the school team and played very well. The team will hopefully be out one last time this year in a friendly match against our local rivals St. Colmcilles.
Well done boys.
Strange things happened in Science class this week when we investigated bending light through glass and water. Some objects seemed to grow much bigger and others seemed to bend or split. We experimented with large and small objects , we used different amounts of water and observed the results. We also learned about translucent and opaque materials. Here we are at work….
