As today was World Book Day, we celebrated by dressing up as characters from our favourite books. We also had some extra DEAR time and a special online story time.

For the last few weeks we’ve had Stephen from Louth GAA coming in to teach us the skills of Gaelic football. We have lots of fun doing the drills and playing a game at the end.
This term we are reading a novel about a joey kangaroo so we have been learning lots about Australia. Today we found out about boomerangs. We learned what they are used for, and we looked at how they are decorated with Aboriginal art. Using this as our stimulus we created our own boomerangs. Unfortunately they don’t come back as well as the real ones!
We had great fun playing our new maths game in groups on Friday. It teaches us about tens and units and renaming. We had two winners at the end which meant we had two royals in the class!
This month we are taking part in the Big Travel Challenge with lots of other schools across the country. For ten days we are encouraging children to ‘Park’n’Stride’ to school. This not only helps the environment, but is also really good for keeping us healthy and it is a lot of fun! Yesterday, 92 out of our 100 children walked to school. Lets keep up the great work for the rest of the challenge. We want to say a huge THANK YOU to all the parents who are helping out. We could not do it without you!
We have started work on our fourth travel flag under the theme of travel. We want to encourage everyone to chose a sustainable mode of travel like walking or cycle. We undertook a traffic survey and a walkability audit to help us with our action plan. We also mapped out the area around the school so we could identify where pupils and staff are travelling from.
