CUMAN NA MBUNSCOIL LOUTH COUNTY FINAL SATURDAY JUNE 13TH – STABANNAN

The Allianz Cuman na Mbunscoil Louth Finals took place last Saturday in The Parnell GAA Pairc Stabannan Co. Louth.
The sun shone on all of the bright young players who qualified from their school heats to take part in the finals. There were footballers, hurlers and camogie players all dressed in their schools jerseys and wearing them with pride.

St. Finians competed in the Puc Fada Finals represented by Elli From Fifth Class. Dromisken, Collon, Tullydonnel, Knockbridge and Dromin Schools also competed for the titles in this competition.

Elli was entered in the Girls individual competition. She had three pucs, each puc was measured in terms of distance and then totalled to get her final score. Her first puc of over 32 metres followed by two more pucs over 26 metres awarded her second place .

Congratulations to Elli.

It’s here! The school has made another wonderful achievement after receiving an Active School Flag. This is a very highly sought after award and everybody at St. Finian’s is very proud. An Active assessor visited St. Finian’s on Tuesday morning and all the active reps along with Mr.Shevlin showed him all our active efforts to date through, pictures, displays, videos, PowerPoints and active demonstrations at break time. He was amazed at all the activities we had in place at school. A big thank you to all the people who helped out with the initiative, from the hardworking pupils, teachers, coaches and of course the parents who helped greatly with our ‘WOW’, ‘Be Active’ and ‘Get Fit in February’ programmes. We will formally present and raise the flag at our Graduation Mass day on Wednesday 24th of June!

Super job everybody!

“Super Active St. Finian’s!”

The boys and girls of 5th and 6th had a fantastic day at Tayto Park on Monday. We enjoyed the animals, the tour of the factory and of course the exciting rides. The pupils also had a tasty lunch during the day. Please enjoy our photos from the day!photo IMG_2118[1] IMG_2097 IMG_2099 IMG_2100 IMG_2105 IMG_2106 IMG_2113 IMG_2115 IMG_2120

The pupils of 3rd and 4th class decided that a school walk, with seniors walking with juniors, was a good way to have the whole school active and enjoy some fresh air together.  5th and 6th class thought it would be even better if the whole school recreated the walk made 60 years ago from the old school to St. Finian’s to mark our schools’ 60th birthday this year. Off we set to the old school house where we took photos of the present day pupils. We then walked in the footsteps of pupils and teachers from 60 years ago back to St. Finian’s. Here we also took photos in front of our school just as they did 60 years ago. Enjoy our photos …..

Well done to all the boys who represented the school at the Cumann na mBunscoil 11 aside blitz in Phillipstown on Tuesday afternoon. The boys did not go through unfortunately but they certainly gave it their all and put in some fantastic performances, including a powerful victory over Dromin N.S. A special well done to some of the boys in 3rd class who made their debut for the school team and played very well. The team will hopefully be out one last time this year in a friendly match against our local rivals St. Colmcilles.

Well done boys.

The footballers for St. Finian’s put in a great brave display against a strong Walshestown team today in Ballygassan. The team showed great work rate and belief  to come back and equalise late on, forcing extra time to be played. Unfortunately they were edged out narrowly in extra time leaving the final score at 2-6 to 2-2. The whole team and the subs that came in did the school very proud. A special mention must go to  Caolán who scored the very impressive 2-2 for St.Finians.

Well done Boys.
