Today we made our rockets and launched them in the rain.
We got plastic bottles and put a little bit if water in them and used a special pipe to compress the air in the bottle. this created the forces needed to push the water out of the bottle and send our rockets flying!

Inspired by the Mexican Halloween holiday Día de Muertos, we decided to make our own Mexican skulls.
We started by designing and colouring our skulls,

Next we cut them out and stuck them on some black card.
Finally our skulls were ready to show off
They are also great for scaring people!

This week was Maths Week. The children had the chance to experience maths in a fun and engaging way by playing many different maths games.
First they were given shapes that they arranged into different patterns.
Next the children were given cards and they practiced their number bonds.
Maths Week was loads of fun!
While learning about how plants grow and what they need to survive we decided to do a spot of gardening ourselves. The children filled socks with grass seeds and compost and watered them regularly. They drew some faces on the cups and waited for their “hair” to grow.
We also looked to see what would happen if we didn’t give grass any sunlight.

I think this guy needs a haircut!
Today we had our end of year school mass followed by the presentation of awards. There were awards for full attendance , pupil of the year in every class, Junior Environmentalist of the year 2015 and the winners of the senior project competition and the Fr. Daly handwriting competition. It was a wonderful awards ceremony with top class entertainment provided by 6th class….
On Thursday Andrea and Kevin from Dunleer Fire Station came to visit 3rd and 4th class. They spoke to us about the dangers of electrical appliances, candles, matches, overloaded sockets. They asked us to make a fire escape plan at home with our families . They told us about the importance of closing doors to prevent fire spreading and the effects of smoke. Kevin explained about the special work of the fire service. Thank you Andrea and Kevin….
