Christmas Jumping Jacks Challenge

Fifth Class

December 18, 2014 by Sixth Class

The young entrepreneurs in 5th and 6th class, along with great help from Brian and John O’Neill staged a great occasion last Thursday night in Sláns for the Turkey Auction. The shed was decorated beautifully by Brian and John for the occasion and the auction itself was very entertaining which was conducted by Tommy Clarke. All 13 turkeys were auctioned at an average price of €65.

The entertainment and refreshments went down a treat in Sláns after wards. We must thank the Parents Association for their help on the night and O’Neill’s Bakery for sponsoring the mince pies. We must also thank David Mc Afee of Sláns for providing the venue also.

All turkey buyers will be contacted in the coming days about a time and date to collect their turkey in the school.

The pupils put in great effort over the last number of months and their efforts were well rewarded when the final account was created. The project made a very handsome profit of €853.50 which will go a long way to purchasing resources needed for the pupils in the school. Well done 5th and 6th class!

Some of the pupils in 5th and 6th class had a very busy afternoon on Tuesday the 9th of December. Gerry Kelly from the “Late Lunch” Programme on LMFM came to visit the pupils of the “Turkeys for Christmas” project. He was very impressed with the project, and with how well the turkeys were cared for.  He was very impressed with the living conditions for the Turkeys and also with the preparation work from all the various departments of the business. He interviewed many of the pupils from the various departments – Finance, Marketing , Communication and Management.

The full recording is due to be broadcasted between 3pm and 4pm on Thursday the 11th of December. Don’t forget that the Turkey Auction will also take place on the 11th @ 7pm in Sláns Yard Annagassan. There will be refreshments and entertainment afterwards in Sláns.

Having been learning all about modern day Greece in Geography and The Ancient Greeks in history, the pupils in 5th and 6th class each created a PowerPoint project on a chosen specific topic. The presentations were excellent by all the pupils. They were full of good clear, concise information along with excellent pictures and photos. The pupils also added excellent slide transitions and backgrounds to really make their projects stand out!

Well done to all the pupils!

The pupils of 5th and 6th class had a very interesting trip to Leinster House in Dublin on Wednesday the 26th of November.

They got to experience live debates in both the Dáil chamber and the Seanad chamber.

They also had a very interesting tour of the houses and  met some T.D’s.

The boys and girls also asked lots of questions on the day.

As a bonus, the pupils also had a lovely walk around Trinity College and the National Museum of Archaelogy. The pupils had a great day out!
