There was great excitement for the Halloween costume competition. All the classes gathered in the hall  for assembly first and then the costume parade began. The infants loved the parade. some of the costumes were funny and some were scary.  Every one got  a turn to show off their costume. The best fun was playing out side on the yard in them. Here are some photos ……..

Third and fourth class went out side for INTERNATIONAL  MATHS  WEEK  and practiced all our measurement skills. It was good fun abut we were busy moving from station to station. We used trundle wheels, tape measures and metre sticks. We even measured in footsteps. We also  practiced our estimation skills, some were very accurate but some were a little crazy, we got better at estimating distances as we went from station to station. We were better at estimating the longer distances. Here is our video…….

We enjoyed the art work of  Paul Klee. We copied his style and drew ” Head of a Man” . Then we turned it into ” Head of a Woman “.

We used oil pastels and we are pleased with how our art work turned out. We learned that Paul Klee is an abstract artist from Switzerland.

In science class we made our own stethoscopes and tested them .  We used plastic pipes , tape, and either a plastic bottle top or a funnel. The most difficult part was getting a good connection between the pipe and the  funnel or bottle top. We discovered this was also the most important part !  Some groups had to fix their connection and the trick was to use a pipe size that was a good fit with lots of tape. We used the stethoscopes to listen to heartbeats, pulse and digestion.  Digestion was very noisy !!  ( it was just after lunch break )

We tested the pipe end and the funnel end for listening. We  also got to use a real stethoscope and compared to it our own stethoscopes worked well.

We did a class project on the heart and with help from everyone in our class we knew 41 facts about the heart. Thank you to Mrs. Mc Mahon  who did a super job of displaying our project. Here are some photos ………

3rd and 4th class have been out and about and did  some Geography  field work on our local road.

We set off in our high viz jackets  with 2 trundle wheels, clip boards and record sheets. We measured the road width

and did a house count and vehicle use survey.  We recorded road signs and markings and drew a sketch of the junction at the church.

We had a great day out and also did some map work and route planning back in the classroom.
