For the last few weeks we have been learning camoige and hurling skills. It has been brilliant fun learning about the games. We might even have some future super stars in our midst!

Last week we took part in Tech Week. Tech Week is a festival of Technology which aims to get pupils to interact with technology, to teach them that it isn’t intimidating and to possibly encourage careers in the IT sector. We took part in lots of activities, spotting how we use technology at home and at school, discussing advancements in technology, designing our own devices of the future and presenting them to the class. Here’s a few pictures showing what we got up to.

On Thursday, second class went with Mrs. Quinn’s and Mr. Shevlin’s classes to Salterstown beach to take part in the beach clean up day. It was organised by the Green School’s committee as part of our next Green Flag plan.  The pupils in second class were teamed up with pupils from fifth and sixth class and together they picked up rubbish along the beach. We collected so many bags of rubbish. It was great to see the beach so clean when we left.

We’ve been working in pairs to find out all about Helen Keller. She was a very important person in history and we learned all about the amazing things she did in her lifetime. When she was young her teacher helped her to learn words by writing the letters on her hand. We practiced doing this with our partner. It was much more difficult than we thought it would be.

We had so much fun rehearsing and performing our Irish play ‘An Tornapa Mór’. Our audience at assembly certainly enjoyed it too!

In art this week, we’ve been busy designing and constructing different structures which are all made out of junk! We gathered up different junk, like boxes, bottles, cartons, and lids, which otherwise would have ended up in the rubbish bin, and turned them into works of art. It was fantastic to use our imaginations to create these masterpieces, which included robots, dog kennels, castles and nests.
