Today Fr. Quinn joined us for our end of year school mass. Readings and prayers were prepared by the boys and girls of 6th class as part of their graduation mass. Their parents received a special invitation to join them on this special graduation day. The school choir were in fine voice and were a credit to Ms. Lambe and Ms. Corrigan.
After the mass it was time for the awards. The first award was a lovely surprise ! St. Finians has been working hard for our active schools flag and Mr. Mc Eneany was delighted to announce that we had won the flag which Mr. Shevlin proudly displayed for us…..
Then it was time to make a presentation to our super school secretary Olga. All the pupils made a special piece of artwork for Olga. It has the thumbprint of every pupil in the school. Olga has been with us at St. Finians for many years and leaves us to take up a full time position at Tullydonnell School in September. We wish Olga all the very best in her new job but we will miss her very much. Good luck Olga !
Mr Mc Eneany then made a special presentation to four families whose youngest child graduated today from St. Finians…
Next it was time for individual and class awards. There was great excitement as Mr. Mc Eneany announced the winners. First were the awards for full attendance. Then Mr. Betz presented the awards for pupil of the year in each class. Fr. Quinn presented the awards to the winners of The Fr. Daly Handwriting Competition. Mrs. Markey presented the award to our Young Environmentalist of the year 2015
Mr. mc Eneany invited everyone to sit back and enjoy a slide show of our 6th class pupils. We saw photos of them as infants and saw them grow and move through all their classes at St. Finians.
Next it was time for 6th class to provide some entertainment . They sang as one voice and delighted everyone with a performance of “Riptide” and ” See You Again “.
The Dillonstown pipers were a credit to their music teacher Roisín with their wonderful performance of ” The Parting Glass”….
Then it was time for the lads to shake it up with some ” Uptown Funk” and ” Hit The Diff” …..
The entertainment went down well and everyone enjoyed the show …
Everyone was in great form as the awards were made for the Pearce Callaghan Project Competition. Our thanks to the Callaghan family who present the award every year. This is one of the special highlights of the day for 6th class. As usual entries were of a very high standard . Every pupil received a certificate for participation . Tension mounted as only two pupils remained to get certificates … who would be the winner?…….
All eyes were on 6th class pupils as Mrs. Mc Quillan presented them with their graduation certificates, caps and gifts……..
Somehow Mr. Mc Eneany managed to find a cap just the right size for Mr. Shevlin …
We wish Mr. Shevlin all the best as he sets off on his travels next school year.
Finally there was just time for 6th class to go outside to throw their caps ….. the perfect end to a great day.. Good luck 6th class.
